About Us

For over five decades, Berkeley Repertory Theatre has been staging work that challenges, moves, and occasionally astonishes audiences from across the Bay Area and beyond. Rated 4.8 stars across nearly 900 reviews, this is the kind of theater where a production like The Lunchbox leaves audiences raving about every detail, from the singing and dancing to the set design and costumes. This is not background entertainment. This is theater that demands your full attention and rewards every bit of it.

Situated on Addison Street in downtown Berkeley, the Rep sits just minutes from the Downtown Berkeley BART station, making it genuinely easy to get here from San Francisco, Oakland, or anywhere on the East Bay. The staff are consistently praised for their warmth, and the two-theater campus, anchored by the Roda Theatre and the Peet's Theatre, gives the company room to stage everything from intimate character studies to full-scale spectacles.

Recognized as one of the finest regional theaters in the country, Berkeley Rep has launched productions that went on to Broadway and earned Tony Awards. But the real measure of this theater is the audience member who walks in for the first time, catches a play like All My Sons, and walks out already planning their next visit.

What We Offer

Berkeley Rep presents a full season of mainstage productions each year, typically running six to eight shows across its two stages. The range is deliberately broad: world premieres sit alongside reimagined classics, musical theater shares a calendar with sharp political drama, and intimate two-handers alternate with large-ensemble works that fill the stage from wing to wing.

Beyond the productions themselves, the theater offers pre-show talks, post-show discussions with cast and creative teams, and educational programming through its School of Theatre, which serves students from middle school through adult learners. Group sales and subscription packages make it straightforward to build a season around your schedule, and the Rep's membership program unlocks priority access, discounts, and invitations to special events.

Tickets are available online at berkeleyrep.org or at the box office. The venue is fully accessible, and the block surrounding the theater on Addison Street offers dining options perfect for an evening out before the show.

"Attended the All My Sons play at the Berkeley Rep. I'm so glad I did. This was our first time the theater has great staff. Took BART from the city a quick trip. Exited at Downtown Berkeley and walked to the Addison Street access. It was a quick left and only steps to the Berkeley Rep. Picked my tickets at will-call no problems. The play was fantastic."

"Just saw The Lunchbox. Wow! So much heart. Sweet, sweet story without saccharin. Singing and dancing are mesmerizingly beautiful. Awesome cast top to bottom. Spectacular set and costumes. Even a roving violinist! I’m sure The Lunchbox will make it to Broadway (and it’s ready!), but don’t miss it here. Yay, Berkeley Rep!"

"Berkeley Repertory Theater is a jewel in the East Bay and in America. Berkeley Rep is recognized as one of the finest regional theaters in the country. It puts on quality productions with the best creative teams and actors in the world. You can see new productions of older and recent plays as well as brand new productions of plays that have never been presented before. In some of these cases, the theater acts as an incubator for shows that will go on to Broadway and London and other venues. It deserves your attendance and financial support."

"Super nice theatre, good seats are ironically left and right of stage although not really any bad seats. Really enjoyed production, sound and show, Mother of Exiles. Great all around experience here. Would definitely come again."

"It was awesome. The play was about people who get out of prison and have No One you\n Help him or her. With the odds stacked against them\n They still made it in life. A lot of people don't and return back to prison. Because it's easier there than out here. If you ever get the chance to see that play. I suggest that you watch It. Everybody deserves a second chance in life."
